Here is a little piece of history of the Dodge House a unique building that once existed, in West Hollywood, California.
The Dodge House was a magnificent house that was built in the “Early Modern” style. This unique home was built in 1914 and designed by Irving Gill.
The Dodge House was owned by Walter Luther Dodge, the maker of a patent medicine called “Tiz”, a treatment for tired tootsies.
This amazing house had 16 rooms and incorporated many technological innovations. It was even featured in “House Beautiful.”
Unfortunately, the Dodge House was demolished in 1970. All efforts to preserve this unique home failed. Today in its place apartments stand tall!
This event sparked the formation of the preservation movement in Los Angeles.

The Dodge House may be gone, but not forgotten!

Hello Ralph and that's sad I thought maybe you had it listed and Vegas Bob could have made a offer on it, beautiful home & interesting post ...
Vegas Bob ... ;)
Ralph: Wow, for 1914 what a minimalist esthetic. Simple and eloquent. Irving Gill was truly a visionary. Without knowing I would have placed it in the 40's or 50's and still ahead of it's time and looking forward.
I love the minimalist style and the history lesson. Great pictures. Thanks for sharing.
What a great house and story. I need to invent a "tiz" Without you saying I would have thought that this was a modern 1950s property.
Hi Ralph... what a gorgeous house. I can't stand to think of a wrecking ball going through it!
Ralph - Thanks again for the trip down memory lane ... I remember this house from when I was in high school .... but I had no idea it was no longer among the "building!" Makes you wonder ... if those walls could have talked! ... Have a great holiday season!
Ralph, what a shame this masterpiece was torn down. I took a look at some of Irving Gill's other projects and found this one not too far away from the Dodge house, and I think it's still standing.
That is such a shame, I love that type of house, it's so LA. We have very few if any like that.
