“Los Angeles 411” The Capital Records Building in Hollywood, California

This amazing building that looks like a bunch of records stacked on top of each other with a needle on the top is one of Los Angeles’s unique historical landmarks!

This wonderful treasure of a place was designed by Welton Becket. The tower was constructed and completed in April 1956.

The Capital Records Building or The Capital Records Tower was the world’s very first round building that was designed and created.

Believe it or not, the design of the Capital Records Building was not intended to look like a stack of vinyl records. It was just a coincidence that it does even still today!

What a great piece of history right in our very own backyard!

The first time I visited the Capitol Records building was in the summer of 1973. I was possibly the most excited 18-year-old in the world because the lobby had all of the gold records by The Beatles hanging on the wall.

Richard: It is amazing that it was not actually designed to look like a stack of records. I wonder what it would look like if it was intended to look like records!
