Located in a paseo on Olvera Street the Avila Adobe House is the oldest surviving residence in Los Angeles.
The Avila Adobe was built in 1818 by Francisco Avila, a wealthy cattle rancher. The walls are 2 ½ to 3 feet (0.91 m) thick. It was temporarily used as headquarters by U.S. Navy Commodore Robert Stockton when the United States first occupied the city in 1846.
Today, the Avila Adobe House is known as an historical landmark in California!
