“Lea’s Corner” How to look like a million bucks without spending a million from the Frugal Mama

If you are on a tight budget like my clan and I, but still want to look your best without breaking your bank account, here are a few tips that I have had the pleasure of experiencing myself!

Tips:

Visit your local beauty college: I love going to the local beauty college Flair’s Beauty College right here in my neighborhood. I can get a manicure, pedicure, facial, my makeup done and a stylish haircut all for under $100.

I know you are probably thinking, Lea I am not so sure about trusting a beauty college student with my hair. My response to that, I have been to quite a few hairstylists in the past that have butchered my hair and charged me double for it. Double I tell you! They were supposed to be professionals too.

Well the one thing I have learned with the beauty college students is that they are hungry to learn, so they take their time in cutting, styling and everything else that you order on the pampering menu because they are trying to make you happy as well as make the grade. The college instructors are right at their fingertips if you or the stylist has a question. Beauty College is not cheap so it is either sink or swim with the beauty college students. So far I have had nothing but wonderful experiences at the beauty school. I figure hair grows back so why not give a beauty college student a chance to excel and save money at the same time!

Visit your local consignment and thrift stores: Places like my local consignment and thrift stores are my absolute favorite stores to shop for name brand clothes at fantastic prices. Not only do you purchase awesome gently used clothing at a great price, you are also helping those in need as well as our planet. You are basically buying recycled clothing that is in excellent condition. I have put several gorgeous name brand outfits together for under $50 bucks. This is great for kids too because as most of you know, kids grow like weeds! The only things I refuse to buy used is of course shoes, undergarments, swimsuits and socks, yuck!

Swap clothes, baby items, furniture, household items and appliances in your local community groups such as (Mom’s and Dad’s groups): This has been a lifesaver for my family! I joined a few moms groups years ago and have swapped everything from clothes (including costumes) to appliances with other local moms and their families. It is a great way to recycle stuff that you do not use anymore for stuff that you do need now for you and your family. By taking this route, you get to save money, save the planet and help others out too!

So these are a few ways to look like a million without spending a million!

Bye for now, until next week!
